I'm Pablo Herrera, President of Colectivo Piloto, a non-profit organization which has been advancing community participation and youth entrepreneurship through filmmaking since 2004. I am also an educator with over 15 years of experience designing and executing multimedia educational initiatives for public schools, museums and cultural institutions.

I'm proposing a talk at SXSW EDU 2023 called "Designing Innovative Multimedia Programs for K-12" to introduce the implementation of multimedia programs to foster students' entrepreneurial mindset through inclusive filmmaking practices.

You can now vote for my PanelPicker idea through Sunday, August 21

During the talk I will explain how to achieve effective results through successful examples such as an after school program at the Museum of the Moving Image, NYC, where students aimed to create stop motion films inspired by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and a summer media camp where students learned the craft of documentary filmmaking by exploring the concepts of cultural identity and diversity.

I will also explain how to use sensorial activities to provide different levels of engagement and options for perception and language for students with cognitive, emotional and sensory disabilities.

This talk is addressed to teaching artists, art teachers, K-12 teachers, museum educators and all levels of professionals working in Education and Storytelling Initiatives in museums, community centers, youth and cultural centers, after school programs and summer camps.

From this talk participants will take away:

First, how to use multimedia resources to encourage students' independence in exercising a critical point of view.

Second, how to design a program to empower kids' voices and inspire their advocacy for social change.

And third, how to implement ethical and inclusive film-making practices to improve students' language and contribute to their social/emotional development.

You can make this talk possible at SXSW EDU 2023 by voting for my idea on PanelPicker® community voting.
